| Storm brings down trees in Jerseyville Wed, 06 Aug 2008 22:54:00 -0500 In the wake of Tuesday's storm, three beautiful old trees that once were a charming part of Bob and Rita Wilson's new Jerseyville home are only remnants of wood resting on a smashed-in porch."We bought this place because of all the big old oak trees," Rita Wilson said Wednesday. It looked like a park when they moved in a mere 27 days ago."Now, there are no trees in the back yard," she said. During Tuesday evening's storm, a 150-year-old oak tree along a creek in the back yard was uprooted and fell, taking with it another curved oak tree, which housed the grandchildren's swing, and a large hickory tree, Wilson said. "It totally collapsed the roof over our 30-foot-by-50-foot patio," she said. The family is devastated about the damage to the house but still thankful that the damage wasn't more severe, Wilson said. Someone could have been injured. "I had just come off the patio," she said. |
